The American Samoa Community College has been awarded a grant award of 400,000 US dollars from the federal Administration for Native Americans Office.

This grant is for the establishment of a Samoan Studies Institute for Economic, Social and Political Development through Culture and Language Preservation.

The College President, Dr. Adele Satele Galea'i, says the grant award is good news for efforts to preserve the Samoan language and culture.

Dr. Minereta Thompson has been appointed the first director of the new institute.
