The Solomon Island's Finance Minister, Peter Boyers, has said the money the country owes the rest of the world is the result of past mismanagement of government finances and state owned enterprises.

He says the debts amount to nearly three million US dollars.

Mr Boyers says businesses will not invest in Solomon Islands if it cannot show that it is able to help itself.

He told Solomon Islands Broadcasting that the country needs to sort out its debts and demonstrate that it can manage its affairs without getting into the same trouble that occurred during the 1990

Mr Boyers says it is important that Solomon Islands sees current projects through, so that in the end there is better government and better services.
