Reports from Solomon Islands say people of Rennell and Bellona province are determined to secede from the country following a lack of infrastructure investment.

According to a report by the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, the province's deputy premier, Solly Tengemoana, has raised his concerns with the visiting Governor General, Sir Nathaniel Waena.

Mr Tengemoana says there has been no development apart from the rehabilitation of a school and a clinic after Cyclone Nina hit.

He also says the abolition of essential services by government has contributed to the difficulties faced by communities of the province.
