Australia is warning its citizens travelling to Fiji to be mindful of the political climate.

In its revised travel advisory, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says tensions have arisen around the Reconciliation, Tolerance and Unity Bill relating to the coup in Fiji in 2000.

It advises Australians in Fiji to maintain good personal security awareness.

The Fiji government has asked foreign governments not to comment on the proposed bill which proposes to give amnesty to the jailed perpetrators of the 2000 coup.
