Public works officials in Fiji are today assessing the cost of widespread flood damage across the country.
The National Disaster Management Office says the rain has abated in Suva and the tropical depression appears to be moving away from the Fiji group.
A spokesman for the office, Inspector Sili Lomalagi, says around 100 people were forced to spend the night in churches after several days of heavy rain flooded villages and roads.
"About five roads were affected by landslides and there were about 40 large roads that were underwater, some bridges were also underwater , about 70 per cent of these roads were closed to all traffic yesterday."
Inspector Lomalagi says the tourist town of Nadi had up to one metre of water in many places yesterday.
