Fiji tourism industry welcomes Virgin Blue plans

Fiji's tourism industry has welcomed plans by Virgin Blue's subsidiary, Pacific Blue, to more than double its flights into the country.

Just two months after entering the Fiji market, Virgin Blue has applied to the International Air Services Commission to enable it to fly daily services to Fiji from Melbourne and Brisbane.

Its current frequency is three flights a week from each city.

The Fiji Visitors Bureau says the increase in frequency would mean more tourists and more money for Fiji.

The Fiji Hotel Association says their members would benefit from the extra flights.
