The leader of Vanuatu's Republican party says his party is aiming to nearly double its MPs to five seats in next week's election.
Maxime Carlot Korman is presently minister of agriculture in the governing coalition and says his party is committed to remaining in the coalition after the election.
He believes his party, which grew from one to three seats at the last election, can build on that and win five seats this time around.
Mr Carlot Korman says if they make it back into government they'll be pushing for more support for agriculture, improvements to roading, health and education, and reductions in some taxes.
"I'm talking about tax like duty tax, revision of the VAT. It's too high, 12.5 percent is not good for this country. We must revise some taxes and strengthen the system of duty."
Maxime Carlot Korman says he's unsure who will make up the governing coalition, but he hopes the public choose only three parties, instead of the current four, in the interests of stability.
