Reform talks pertinent to Fiji, says minister

Fiji's Finance Minister, Ratu Jone Kubuabola, says the discussions at this week's Forum Economic Minister's meeting, on institutional reform and public sector governance, were very relevant for his government.

But Ratu Jone says criticism of Fiji in a survey presented to the Ministers by Transparency International was out of date.

TI released an assessment of integrity systems which found widespread abuse of public office in a number of Pacific states, including in Fiji.

But Ratu Jone says the report doesn't take into account improvements made, since the coup.

"We've moved significantly since then, as you know, 2001 was just after 2000, and the events, but the new government has been there now for three years, so we believe things have improved since then."
