Fiji police won't be drawn on meeting with former commissioner

2:12 pm on 1 June 2004

Police in Fiji are still refusing to comment on whether they will question the former police commissioner, Colonel Isikia Savua, on his alleged involvement in the coup.

The police spokesperson, Mesake Koroi, says the commissioner, Andrew Hughes, will meet with Mr Savua, later this week.

Police have previously said they were interested in questioning the former commissioner but now will not provide details of what the meeting will entail.

Mr Koroi says the only people who know are Mr Hughes and the chief of the investigating team into the coup.

""Their discussion will definitely have to be just on what they have to discuss. I'm not privy to that but as far as the police is concerned, we would like to speak with Mr Savua in connection with the 2000 coup."
