There has been a split in Vanuatu's National United Party.

The NUP is the second largest bloc in the coalition government.

The split has prompted the formation of a new party, the Vanuatu National Party which is being led by prominent businessman, Dinh van Than.

Mr van Than has confirmed he plans put forward around fifteen candidates in the general elections due to be held on July 6th

The move will eat into the support of the National United party, which was originally the party of the late Father Walter Lini ..Vanuatu's founding father.

Our correspondent in Port Vila says there are also signs of splits within the Vanuaaku Party.
