Police in Solomon Islands have identified the alleged killer of a man at the Auki police station as Edmund Sae.
He is the police officer who escaped from a remand prison in Honiara where he was held for killing a former police commissioner, Sir Fredrick Soaki, earlier this year.
Police say Sae, who was recognised by his former colleagues when he entered the police station from the back, started shooting indiscriminately, killing a suspect in custody.
They have yet to establish a motive for the attack, which comes a week after Sae and three other inmates escaped from jail.
A police spokesman, Charles Lemoa, says despite appeals to the public no sighting has been reported which he says may be because of fear.
"In order for police to get along with their work it needs public support and public support means they have to give, provide information to the police."
