A Solomon Islands opposition politician, Alfred Sasako, questions the value of the training assistance given to the police by Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Sasako, who is the foreign affairs spokesman, says a small band of thugs is terrorising the public without the police being able to keep them in check.
He says appeals to Australia and New Zealand to help with policing have been ignored for the past few years and the force is hardly helped by just giving training.
"There is no guarantee that those who are coming out of the training being given today are going to be protected from the top of the echelon who are actively engaged in some of the criminal activity going on in the Solomon's at this time"
