In pictures: Top of the South Island flooding

Floodwaters still have not completely receded from some parts of Westport and Marlborough after wild weather at the weekend, hundreds of people are also displaced after water rushed through their homes, and farmers are counting the costs.

Storms, heavy rain and flooding was felt the worst in Buller and Marlborough with extensive damage to property, and evacuations in Westport, where many homes have been inundated.

But surrounding regions also had storm damage, flooding and widespread road closures.

Work is underway to repair damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure.

Waka Kotahi said damage to roads are worst in the Tasman and Marlborough and the agency has urged motorists to take care on the roads.

Boil water notices are still in place in many areas.
