Hollywood director Rob Reiner and wife Michele found dead
A family statement has confirmed the deaths, hours after two bodies were discovered at their LA home.
Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife have been found dead at their home in the US.
A spokesperson for the Reiner family said late on Sunday (local time) that Michele and Rob Reiner have died, describing the loss as “tragic” and asking for privacy as relatives grieve.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
Earlier it was reported that two bodies had been found at the Los Angeles home.
US law enforcement officials were investigating the circumstances in an apparent homicide, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.
The LAPD gave no details about the identities of the two deceased individuals. But a Los Angeles Fire Department official told Reuters earlier that a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found dead at a home in west Los Angeles at an address that public records linked to Reiner.
Reiner, 78, co-starred in the 1970s hit CBS television comedy All in the Family and directed several well-known movies, including This is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, Stand by Me and The American President.
No suspects sought
The Los Angeles Police Department said late Sunday investigators are not seeking any suspects at this stage in the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.
“We are not looking for anyone as a suspect or in any other manner at this time,” LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said at a news conference, emphasizing that the investigation is still in its earliest phase.
Police detectives were interviewing a family member Sunday evening regarding the deaths, a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told CNN. Hamilton said at the news conference that no one had yet been detained nor was anyone being interviewed “as a suspect.”
“We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation,” he said.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also said that the investigation was ongoing.
"I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him," she said.
"An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, and engaged political activist, he always used his gifts in service of others," she added.
