The 20-year-old from Patetonga posted the fastest time in the heats and ranked number 1 in the world but only snuck onto the last place on the podium.

There was only 0.05 seconds between second and fourth place.

Aitchison finished in a time of 14.62 seconds, just ahead of Argentina's Andrea Martinez who crossed the finish line in 14.65 seconds

The final was won in world record time of 13.61 seconds by China's Shi Yiting, followed by Russian Paralympic Committee's Elena Ivanova in second.

Aitchison said she was confident going into the race but said she was a bit tired due to her cerebral palsy.

"I was concentrating towards the end to just hold on to the third position and then once I crossed the line it was like 'who got it' it was so close I was just waiting for the results."

Aitchison now has two medals for the Games in Japan, after taking the silver medal in the 200m S8 final.
