The pair beat India in straight sets, leading at all times.

The victory backed up their title from the 2017 World Championships and was King's third medal and second gold of the Games.

She won the women's singles title earlier in the week before taking bronze in the mixed doubles yesterday alongside Paul Coll.

"I wanted three golds, to be honest … but to come away with two golds and a bronze is pretty amazing."

King played 16 matches throughout the Games on her way to triple medals, but said she felt buoyed by today's win.

"When you play such a big match on such an occasion against a quality team and come out on top, it's easy to feel up on cloud nine… Maybe ask me tomorrow how I'm feeling."

Landers-Murphy, the "dark horse in the team", had carried her through the last week, King said.

"[She] got me through when I was a bit flat and down, and we're going to enjoy this for sure."

Landers-Murphy was dominant in the final, scoring a point at one stage that was so astonishing that King stopped to laugh before serving.

"I was in awe of her," King said.

"We play our best when we're relaxed but still aggressive, and I guess if you're laughing on the court that's the ultimate relaxed state."

Landers-Murphy said what she was doing on-court "doesn't really process".

"It's not until I see a reaction from Joey that it registers."
