The women's hockey team beat Australia 4-1 in the gold medal match.

It's the first hockey gold medal New Zealand have won at the Commonwealth Games since the sport was introduced to the programme in Kulala Lumpur in 1998.

The Black Sticks men added a silver medal to the gold won by the women's team, losing to Australia 2-0.

After a goal-less first quarter, Australia struck twice in the second quarter, and New Zealand could not answer in a tense second half.

Boxer David Nyika was spurred to Commonwealth gold by the sound of a te reo song drowning out the Australian fan contingent.

His victory makes it back-to-back Commonwealth golds, after he won fighting down a weight division at the Glasgow Games in 2014.

"Gold on gold - it looks good huh?" he said

Danielle Rowe of Wales took bronze in a photo finish ahead of New Zealand's Sharlotte Lucas in fourth.

New Zealand failed to win a medal in the men's road race, coming up just short in a sprint finish won by Australian Steele Von Hoff.

Wales' Jonathan Mould took silver with South Africa's Clint Hendricks claiming bronze.

The best placed New Zealander was Hayden McCormick in fifth, with Shane Archbold seventh.

The Silver Ferns missed their first Commonwealth Games final after going down 65-44 to Australia in the semi-final.

They'll now play Jamaica off for the bronze tomorrow after the Sunshine Girls lost to England in a one goal nailbiter.

Shooting accuracy again hurt the Silver Ferns, they finished with in the mid 70s compared to Australia's 90 percent accuracy.

Given Jamaica beat New Zealand in their last two encounters, the Ferns could easily come home empty-handed.

The Tall Ferns will bring home a bronze medal after winning against Canada on the Gold Coast.

With 74-58 at full-time, after a very close game in the first half, the New Zealand team widened the score by the end of the third quarter, 57-39.

The Tall Ferns found themselves playing for bronze after taking out their semi-final game against Australia yesterday; 109 - 50.

The New Zealand men's basketball team suffered an agonising 88-86 loss to Canada, who scored on the final buzzer of their semi final match to advance to the gold medal playoff at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand will play Scotland for the bronze medal while Canada will play Australia for gold tomorrow.

New Zealand's squash pair Joelle King and Paul Coll have taken out third place in the mixed doubles.

They came out on top with a 11-6 11-6 win against England.

King has another match tomorrow - she plays for gold in the women's doubles with Amanda Landers-Murphy. She says it's been a long two weeks.

"The job isn't over yet. I'll do everything tonight to recover and make sure I'm here 100 percent tomorrow."

On the last day of competition tomorrow, the men's and women's sevens enter the final phase, and the Tall Blacks and Silver Ferns play for bronze.
