The Papua New Guinea men's sevens team are bracing for another challenging weekend at the Commonwealth Games.

The Pukpuk 7s are competing at a third straight Commonwealth tournament and open their campaign against Scotland this afternoon.

But things won't get any easier for coach Dougie Guise as his squad then face defending champions and World Series leaders South Africa.

"This is the third time we've got them now (in our pool) - we had them in Sydney, Hamilton (on the World Series) and now we've got them again," he said.

"It's a tough ask as well as we've got Scotland. It's going to be a tough pool again but we're treating it and we're preparing the same as we have over the last few legs of the World Series and we will see how we go. We always try to get as much as we can out of these tournaments, especially leading up to the World Cup."
