The men's sprint team set a new Commonwealth record to qualify first for the gold medal final against England at the velodrome in Brisbane.

Their time of 42.822 broke the record of 43.181 previously set by New Zealand in Glasgow.

That race will take place at 11pm NZ time.

Canada and Malaysia will race for the bronze.

The women's 4000m pursuit team is also into the gold medal ride off.

They posted the second fastest time in qualifying behind Australia to qualify for the gold medal ride off which will be at 9.40pm NZ time tonight at the velodrome in Brisbane.

They may struggle to win gold however as they were five seconds behind the Australians who set a Commonwealth Games record.

The women's sprint team of Emma Cumming and Natasha Hansen have also qualifed for the gold medal race also against Australia who were the fastest qualifiers. That race is at 10.55pm NZ time.

Natasha Hansen said the qualifying race was a bit nerve wracking after a false start.

"But pretty cool to get to race for gold and set a new PB and NZ record!"

The men's 4000m pursuit team were through to bronze medal ride, but have been disqualified.

Nicholas Kergozou had an issue with his bike which didn't meet correct stipulations.

The breach was related to the height of his bike's cockpit.
