3:06 Classic Concert: Miles Davis Quintet - Live In Den Haag
Recorded at the Kurhaus, Den Haag, The Netherlands, on 9 April 1960, this concert features tenor sax master John Coltrane with pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb along side Davis. Coltrane and Davis had played and recorded together for five years and by 1960 their relationship was ending. The playing tension between two is evident as is the developing post-bop neo-modal jazz style of both players with these live recording differing greatly from the more restrained studio versions of this material cut only five years previously. This was their last tour together. When explaining why he took such long solos, Coltrane said that at times he just didn't know how to stop. Davis advised "just take the horn out of your mouth".
