American filmmaker Disney has put out a casting call for Maori and Pasifka girls to star in one of its animated movies.

Moana is a comedy adventure set 2000 years ago about a Polynesian teenager searching for a mythical island.

Girls from New Zealand aged between 14 and 18 are asked to send in an application by Christmas. Disney said they must be great singers and be comfortable in front of the camera.

The film is scheduled to be released in late 2016.
