The allrounder is part of the Pakistan side touring New Zealand for warm up matches ahead of next month's World Cup.

The reports said Sohail, 26, woke up in the night, scared there was a "supernatural presence" in his room at the Rydges Latimer Christchurch.

"He was jolted by someone badly while asleep and got fever afterwards," according to the Pakistani reports, which added:

"Hotel Management said there is no complaint of such [an] event before and [the] hotel was constructed back in 2011".

Sohail insisted on shifting to another room. He tweeted afterwards that "ALLAH always answers your duas". A dua is a type of Muslim prayer.

Sohail did not play in his side's loss to the New Zealand President's XI in Lincoln on Sunday, but was playing in the second game today.

Pakistan play the Black Caps in two one-dayers ahead of the World Cup, the first of which is in Wellington on Saturday.
