Dixon was driving a Ford Prototype for his Chip Ganassi team in the SportsCar event.

Dixon's team, which also included fellow Indycar driver Tony Kanaan, finished just over a second ahead Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais.

They had taken the lead with just over an hour to drive.

Ganassi have now won the Daytona race six times and this is Dixon's second victory.

Fellow New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen was 14th in a Porsche 911, while Brendon Hartley was 39th in a BMW.
