Upper Hutt City Council is yet to get a close look at a damaged bridge which was closed four days ago, cutting road access to 63 homes.
Floodwaters damaged the middle pier of the bridge over the Akatarawa River in the Upper Hutt suburb of Birchville last Thursday.
A council spokesperson said it was trying to get engineers to survey the bridge this afternoon.
It had to wait for floodwaters to recede before a full inspection could be made, they said.
Once that was done, options for the bridge's future could be considered.
Meanwhile, a bulldozer was making a temporary vehicle route from nearby Totara Park to the cut-off suburb, the spokesperson said.
