Willis Street in Wellington's CBD has been fully reopened following the completion of emergency water pipe repairs.

The wastewater pipe broke just before Christmas, causing sewage to pour into the harbour.

A new underground pipe was successfully installed last Wednesday, with the temporary over-ground pipe decommissioned and removed by Friday.

The repairs were designated a Critical Project, allowing it to continue after the lockdown.

The next phase of the work will be to renew the stormwater and wastewater lines under Dixon Street, but this has been put on hold until after the lockdown.
