Death of pregnant woman Sonam Shelar not suspicious

Police say they are not treating the death of pregnant Wellington woman Sonam Shelar as suspicious.

Ms Shelar, who was five months pregnant, was last seen on Cashmere Avenue in Khandallah on 17 November.

The 26-year-old's body was found by surfers on a remote Wairarapa beach on Wednesday.

Police conducted an extensive search at Island Bay beach in Wellington, after two people found two cell phones belonging to Ms Shelar.

Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said after making further inquiries, the police have closed their investigation.

The matter has been referred to the coroner, and victim support were now working with Sonam Shelar's family, he said.
