Police say they found two cell phones belonging to a pregnant woman who was found dead near White Rock Beach in Wairarapa.

Sonam Shelar, who was five months pregnant, was last seen on Cashmere Avenue in Khandallah.

After an extensive search, the 26-year-old's body was discovered by surfers at a Wairarapa beach on Wednesday.

Ms Shelar lived in a flatting type of accommodation with three or four other people, including her husband who said he last saw her on Saturday morning, Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said.

The others had last seen her on Friday, Mr McKee said.

Mr McKee said a couple of people found two cell phones, belonging to Ms Shelar, in the water at Island Bay on Saturday and forensic examination of the phones was underway.

Police are now conducting a further extensive search on the beach to locate evidence and any "items of clothing or any other items she may have had on her."

A dive team went to the beach yesterday to try and find evidence.

Mr McKee said police were appealing to anybody who may have seen Ms Shelar or had footage of the area, particularly around Khandallah or Island Bay or South Wairarapa, from last Friday or Saturday.

Police had so far collected CCTV footage from businesses and cars in the area and spoken to a number of people to help with their inquiries.

A post-mortem was also completed yesterday, but he did not provide further details saying police were awaiting forensic anyalysis to confirm cause of death.

The case had been referred to the Coroner.
