A hunter has died after being shot in the chest in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park near Te Aroha in north-eastern Waikato.
Police said they were notified of the incident after another hunter called emergency services.
Medical staff reached the man by helicopter but he died at the scene.
Police are investigating on behalf of the coroner.
