A nationwide shortage of pills had some pharmacists worried they might have to start turning women away.

The shortage was caused by the previous supplier running out before a new supplier was due to take over.

New stock has now been distributed to wholesalers, and orders from pharmacies are being filled.

A Pharmac spokesperson said orders were normally filled within 24 hours.

Pharmacies around the country spoken to by RNZ this morning said supplies had in some cases already arrived or were expected later today or tomorrow.
