Kylie Natasha Puna faced one charge of possession of methamphetamine for supply.

Ms Puna had been held without charge since Monday under the Misuse of Drugs Act while the police waited for her to expel the drugs which she was carrying internally.

She appeared in the dock in crutches and communicated with a man in the gallery who yelled across the court that he loved her.

She was remanded in custody for another court appearance next week via video link from prison

The car she was in rammed a police road block, injuring two police officers, before hitting a car carrying three elderly people.

One of them remained in a critical condition in intensive care.

The driver of the BMW had been remanded in custody on three charges of reckless driving causing injury and one of failing to stop for police.

The police said further charges may still be laid over the incident.

An Independent Police Conduct Authority investigation was underway into the police chase that preceded the crash.
