AT THE MOVIES #847    TWO OUT OF THREE IS FABULOUS

Simon Morris is happy with this week’s assortment, featuring two great films and only one, er, other one.   There’s a documentary about the current sensation at Cannes - veteran art-rockers Sparks - one of the hits of the French Film Festival, and a strong mostly women cast in a comic-book type thriller.

Gunpowder Milkshake sees Karen Gillan (Dr Who) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) as daughter and mother assassins under attack from The Firm.

French hit The Godmother sees a middle-aged police interpreter, played by Isabelle Huppert (Elle) make a career move when she unexpectedly finds a large consignment of hashish.

And Edgar Wright’s documentary about American group Sparks is released just as band-members Russell and Ron Mael launch their own musical, Annette, at the Cannes Film Festival.  The Sparks Brothers features fans including Todd Rundgren, Duran Duran, Jonathan Ross, Beck and Giorgio Moroder.
