AT THE MOVIES #775                   SPRING CLEANING AGAIN

Simon Morris takes advantage of Spring Cleaning season, by capitalizing on rather more choice than usual.  He sees two films directed by women, looking at stories from different cultures – a Chinese-American comedy-drama, and a story of women Kurdish rebels – and a prestigious music documentary.

Amazing Grace is a documentary about the best-selling gospel album ever, featuring the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

The Farewell – "based in an actual lie” - sees a Chinese family try and keep a grandmother from knowing she only has weeks to live.  Starring Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, Oceans 8)  

 And The Girls of the Sun tells the story of a Kurdish unit of women fighting against Isis in northern Iraq.
