1:25 Combating Fussy Eating

Fussy eaters can be a bit of a nightmare, with parents disguising veges just to get them into a child, that will only eat from a menu of two items. But some new research has found babies who feed themselves as soon as they start eating solids, appear to be less fussy eaters later on. Associate Professor Anne-Louise Heath from the Department of Human Nutrition, University of Otago, is one of the study leads.

3:10 The End of Empathy

We're often told to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. Yale University psychologist Paul Bloom doesn't buy it. He says new research points to some of the downsides of acting on empathy. Good intentions can be a poor substitute for real moral reasoning. Bloom makes the argument that ethical judgement based on empathy focus on one person's suffering and  ignores the big picture. His book is called Against Empathy: The Case For Rational Compassion.

Migraines are intense headaches that are often accompanied by vision disturbance, nausea and sensitivity to light and noise. The culprit is now thought to be a pain-causing hormone called CGRP which affects the brain, and Debbie Hay, from the University of Auckland, tells Alison Ballance that there are a number of clinical trials underway which are testing drugs that stop the effect of CGRP.
