1:20 Mt Roskill By-Election

Political shock waves may hit on Saturday if Labour loses its traditionally safe seat of Mt Roskill. Vacated by Phil Goff when he took up the mayoral chains, it's widely tipped to continue to be a red electorate. But as we've just seen in the U.S anything can happen in politics. If Labour does lose, it's likely that there will be big ramifications for party leader Andrew Little. Political scientist, Bryce Edwards, goes over the possible scenarios.

1:25 Fifty Years of the TREKKA

One of the most ambitious chapters in New Zealand's manufacturing history opened 50 years ago today - the roll-out of the country's first and only mass-produced motor vehicle. The Trekka resembled an under-nourished Land Rover, and its creation was an unlikely blend of Kiwi can-do, with mechanicals from then-communist Czechoslovakia. Only 2,500 were produced, but there were hopes at one point of a flourishing export trade to Australia and Indonesia. Our very own, Todd Niall, has recounted the vehicle's short but compelling history in a book.

3:20 Geoff Marsland on Coffee

Wellington's coffee baron Geoff Marsland has just released his book, The Havana Coffee Story, written with Tom Scott. He founded Midnight Espresso in Cuba Street in 1989, back when most Wellington cafes still sold asparagus rolls and egg sandwiches. He then encouraged others to follow suit, and Wellington's cafe culture began to bloom.
