2:10 The Marineland Countdown - Regan Beckett - The countdown has begun for the last remaining seals and sea lions at Napier's Marineland who are going to be sent to new homes in Australia this year.
Marineland opened in 1965.  In it's heyday,  there were sea lions, a leopard seal, fur seals, otters,  bottlenose dolphins and penguins there. The Napier City Council closed Marineland in 2009, but the seals and sealions  remained at the facility under the care of Senior Supervisor Regan Beckett. He started volunteering at Marineland more than 30 years ago when he was just 12 years old.   Right now he's preparing a special quarantine pool where the seals and sealions must be held for 120 days before they are shipped to Australia.
Jim Mora talks with Regan Beckett from Marineland in Napier.
