Bonnie was raised in Blenheim and is a proud South Islander. She received a BA in Classics and Politics and LLB from the University of Otago in Dunedin. She is an enrolled barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.

She got her start in media while studying, first as a volunteer DJ and then news manager at student radio station Radio One 91FM in Dunedin. In 2022 Bonnie moved to Auckland to work as associate producer for Newsroom’s daily news podcast for RNZ The Detail. During her two-year tenure with The Detail, the podcast won several prestigious awards, including - Best Original Podcast - Ongoing/Episodic (Voyager Media Awards 2023) and Best Factual Podcast - Episodic (NZ Radio Awards 2023, 2024).

At the end of 2023, Bonnie moved back to radio, producing Nights with Emile Donovan on RNZ National. This summer she and Emile will co-present Summer Weekends on 10 and 11 January.

Bonnie says she loves her job because she gets to talk to sharp, creative and funny people every day.

In her spare time, she loves to cook and read Agatha Christie mysteries. She’s the reigning champion of the Auckland RNZ staff bake off.
