The newspaper The National also reports that 15 semi-permanent houses were burnt down in the unrest at Kanduwanum villafe.

Local police commander Supt Albert Beli said policemen were sent to the site to help resolve a tense situation.

He said police also received information of young people on Kairiru Island attacking students and damaging properties at the local Secondary School.

He urged the offenders to surrender or police would have their parents locked up at the station in Wewak.
