Reports from Tahiti say the public prosecutor has opened an investigation into the alleged abuse of public funds by top politicians of French Polynesia's Tahoeraa Huiraatira party.

The case centres on the employment of four staff of the assembly's secretariat who allegedly only worked for the party.
In 2016, both the then assembly president Marcel Tuihani and the party leader Gaston Flosse were detained for questioning both separately and jointly.
According to Tahiti-infos, the investigations were concluded in 2018 over the allocation of more than $US360,000 as salaries for the four staffers.
The prosecution is now again questioning those involved in view of possible charges.
This comes two months before both men want to re-enter politics by running in the municipal elections in Papeete.
Flosse has so far failed to register as a voter in Papeete.
Mr Tuihani quit the Tahoeraa Huiraatira in 2017 after accusing Flosse of having a humiliating attitude towards his father.
