Lolo Moliga said police seized drugs, including crystal methamphetamine and marijuana, worth about $US800,000 and $US130,000 respectively and a significant number of guns.

It is the first time the government has released such data.

The governor said it is imperative that American Samoa devises effective strategies to pre-empt the inflow of drugs, weapons and ammunition, as well as human trafficking.

Lolo said the government must revisit the effectiveness of existing laws and penalties.

He also said it may be necessary to involve village councils in the enforcement of such laws.
