The Papua New Guinea women's cricket team has finished 5th on the table of the Australian Country Cricket Championships.

Playing a mix of 20-over and 40-over matches, the Lewas ended the tournament with three wins and four losses.

In their last match on Friday, the Lewas lost to Western Australia country by 34 runs in a 40-over match.

They had also lost to WA in a T20 match, by 17 runs, earlier in the week.

PNG had beaten South Australia country by 40 runs in a T20 match on Thursday.

The Lewas next head to Nepal, for a qualifier for this year's women's Twenty20 World Cup.

They won an East Asia Pacific qualifier last September to earn a spot at the global qualifier.

A total of ten teams will vie for four World Cup spots, and PNG are grouped with Bangladesh, Ireland, Namibia and the US.

The women's T20 World Cup will be held in England and Wales in June and early July.
