BRUCH: Violin Concerto No 1 in G minor Op 26; ZIERHOFER: Crises for percussion ensemble (recorded in the Auckland Town Hall by RNZ)

On this week’s Young New Zealand we return to Auckland Town Hall for stunning performances from the Auckland Youth Orchestra, recorded in October last year.

The first work in the programme is Max Bruch’s ever popular Violin Concerto in G-minor performed by Jim Wu.

Next on the programme is a commissioned work from a young Viennese composer Markus Zierhofer, he’s written it especially for the percussion section. The title called ‘Crises’, inspired by Beethoven and his personal crises: the loss of his father, affection for his nephew and the problems that led to, and his deafness. He tells us in his programme note that he has ‘used the fate motif, but it is mostly hidden or in a context other than what may be expected’”

This concert was recorded in the Auckland Town Hall by Radio New Zealand
