    Len Lye: the Opera

Eve de Castro-Robinson first conceived an opera based on the life of New Zealand artist Len Lye in 2002 when invited to submit an idea to an initiative called 'Wild Opera'. She got on the phone to the man who had written the book - Roger Horrocks had published his biography of Lye the previous year. He became the librettist and together with the help of a team of enthusiastic supporters, they brought the idea to fruition when the opera had its world première in September 2012, produced by the University of Auckland. Tim Dodd talks to de Castro-Robinson, Horrocks, the artistic director Uwe Grodd and the baritone who plays Lye, James Harrison (RNZ)
