The Wellington Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund admits to being a little sad that his football career is coming to and end but he's trying to enjoy his last few days as much as possible.

The Phoenix are saying goodbye to two veterans this weekend in their final match of the A-League season against the Western Sydney Wanderers in Wellington.
Sigmund is retiring from professional football while Manny Muscat is heading back to Australia to finish his career with Melbourne City in the A-League.
35-year-old Sigmund said "there have been some sad emotions this week, but I've tried to enjoy the boys and the last bit of training, even though every time I run it seems to hurt."
He said the emotions have hit him at funny times, "just driving along and certain songs come on and you just have a wee cry on your own and it's a bit weird, but I think it's a proud emotion."
"It's been really hard to keep going this long and I'm looking forward to it finishing, but also I'm going to be sad at the same time."
"It's been a hard year for me with illness and injuries, but again how hard I've worked to make sure I get out for this last game is something to be proud of and all the obsticles that get put in your way so hopefully I can just walk out there with my kids and enjoy that moment."
Sigmund said he's looking forward to life after professional football, "I'll put my feet up, have a beer with my mates and watch in front of the tv."

Sigmund started his senior career with Christchurch United in 1998, he joined the Phoenix in 2008 and has played 180 games for them.
He also played 31 times for the All Whites between 2000 and 2014.
