Win the toss and bowl at Seddon Park

Win the toss and bowl. That's the advice local boy and vice captain Kane Williamson gave his skipper ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Hamilton.

While Williamson is from Tauranga, his home ground for his domestic side Northern Districts is Seddon Park.

The Black Caps have retained the same playing XI which won the first Test in Dunedin, meaning they have four pace bowlers in Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell and Neil Wagner.

With such a lush looking wicket, bowling first would seem the way to go, Williamson said.

"We've played on the surface a lot, it is alway green, in fact every surface we play on here starts out very green and I think it'll be a good cricket surface, but if it swings that's when I think it offers more to the bowlers."

Williamson said the pitch reminded him of many of the English county grounds he's played at.

However, he said players could get too caught up in what the pitch might look like.

"It can be a distraction sometimes where like on a spinning wicket sometimes a straight ball gets you out and getting your head around that philosophy on a seaming wicket if you completely change your game sometimes you can over think it."

"It reminds me of English conditions, especially if it swings here and I suppose you have to adjust your game slightly to best cope with it."

Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has suggested he may take an unchanged lineup into the game but will consider bringing in batsman Kaushal Silva.

New Zealand won the first Test in Dunedin by 122 runs.

A fine morning was forecast, but the afternoon could bring a few showers, and possibly some thunder and hail.
