After a rain delay following lunch took over an hour out of the test, New Zealand's quest to chase down Australia's 320 runs always looked out of reach.
Australian captain Steve Smith and New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum both agreed to call the game early with 15 overs to spare as light began to fade at the WACA.
The Black Caps finished the final day on 104 for two, 216 runs behind Australia.
Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson were the two batters who carried New Zealand to that total with Taylor making 36 on top of his first innings of 290 and Williamson 32 on top of his 166 in the first innings.
The test in Perth will not only be remembered for the monumental number of runs scored in a test series (1672 in total) but also it signaled the end of the career for Australian seam bowler Mitchell Johnson.
Johnson pulled stumps on his career at the beginning of the final day in Perth and even managed to pick up the final two wickets of the game when he removed Tom Latham and Martin Guptill in quick succession.
Johnson will end his test career as the fourth highest wicket taker in Australian history with 313 wickets in total.

New Zealand's taken three wickets in the opening session of the final day with Australia moving through to 331 for five, a lead of 266, having started the day at 258 for two.
First to go was Australia's overnight hero Steve Smith who departed for 138 after he edged a full delivery to BJ Watling off the bowling of Trent Boult.
Next to fall was his replacement Mitchell Marsh who only managed to make one run.
Not long after hometown hero Adam Voges also fell after he was trapped in front of his stumps off the bowling of Doug Bracewell to be given out LBW.
Australia's wicketkeeper Peter Nevill and Mitchell Johnson, who's playing in his last international cricket match at the WACA, were at the crease for Australia at the end of the first session.
