The former Australian opening batsman Justin Langer has broken Sir Don Bradman's long-standing record for the most runs in first class cricket by an Australian.

The 38-year-old left hander passed Bradman's mark of 28,067 runs playing for Somerset against Worcestershire in an English county match overnight, and he went on to reach his 87th first class century.

Langer has played 120 more first class games than Bradman.
