Rail commuters between Britomart and Orakei face an 80 per cent rise, when Auckland Transport makes the one-stage-trip a two-stage journey, to line up with bus fares.

AT HOP fares in a new inner-city zone will rise by half to $1.80.

Adults using AT HOP cards will find most shorter bus journeys cost 10c more but longer journeys are unchanged.

Auckland Transport says compared with other cities, Auckland's shorter trips are too cheap.

The fare changes are part of preparations for a simpler fare zone structure being introduced in July.
