An armed man who broke into an Auckland home shortly after midnight demanded money before shooting a dog four times with an air rifle when he didn't get what he wanted.
Police described the attack as vicious and have been speaking to the nine people living at the house on Auckland's North Shore.
They said the intruder confronted the occupants of the house with the air rifle before taking some property and demanding more.
When the intruder didn't get what he wanted, he shot their dog, before taking off.
The dog is being treated by a vet.
