A new $13 million art museum is planned for central Christchurch, if the council agrees to gift the land needed, which is currently being used as a car park.

One of the country's most significant private art, sculpture and designer furniture collections would be displayed in the new museum.
The Christchurch City Council will consult the public about gifting the land - located on the corner of Rolleston Avenue and Worcester Boulevard - to the Ravenscar Trust.
The Trust and the Canterbury Museum unveiled plans for the Ravenscar House Museum this morning, which will display the Wakefield Family's personal art collection.
The $13 million building would be paid for by the Trust, and operated by the Canterbury Museum.
The land, which is opposite the Canterbury Museum, is valued at $5 million, but is currently being used as a car-park and toilet stop for tourists.
