The police have named the young woman worker killed in a rubbish truck crash on Auckland's North Shore.

Jane Lee Devonshire, who was employed by the Auckland Council-owned company, died after the truck overturned on Hebe Place in Birkenhead yesterday morning.

The driver, who was trapped in the crash, is being treated for leg injuries in hospital.

Acting Inspector Todd Moore-Carter said the 19-year-old was working on the waste removal round at the time of the crash, and her family were incredibly devastated.

He said the truck was about to be towed away to be forensically examined.

A police serious crash unit has been investigating.
